Living in Liverpool is great! It's such a creative, beautiful city full of inspiration, and I couldn't imagine living anywhere else!
I have always wanted to do something creative with my mum being a children's author, and following the illustration path was the best decision I've ever made!
I set SWI up in early 2016, and sold at my first market down at the Albert Dock a couple of months after. My first stall wasn't the best, but it was exactly the experience I needed to give me the confidence to build up my business!
All of my work is hand drawn. I find this is the best way to illustrate, traditionally. I use high quality watercolour paper, liquid watercolours and Indian ink for all of my designs, which leave lovely, vibrant final illustrations!
My logo has played a huge part of my business, and with sloths being quite a popular animal, I’ve noticed it being recognised quite a lot (which is always so nice to see)! It doesn’t have much of a story behind it - other than, I love sloths! I'm actually a sloth adopter too so my name is on a sign at Chester Zoo... how cool!
I currently offer picture book illustrations, commercial illustrations and personalised cartoon portraits, along with having a wide range of quirky products and eco-friendly cards up for sale. It's so exciting to see my products flying off to places such as Australia, New Zealand & Dubai!
My most popular service is definitely my Personalised Cartoon Portraits. I first began to offer these in early 2017, and they have proven to be quite popular! I offer 4 different types; family, pet, single and wedding – it’s so nice to be able to bring out the personalities of people (and animals) in a completely different and quirky way to what you’d normally find.
I always have music playing whilst I’m working; The Beatles, Aerosmith and Bon Jovi are my favourites (I actually have a signed Aerosmith CD)! You’ll never find me singing though… that’s not really my strong point!
Along with my illustration, I also love photography. I'm a member at Chester Zoo so it's the perfect place to take my camera and capture all the crazy things the animals do! I love anything to do with animals, which basically makes the Zoo my second home! It’s so sad to hear how many different species are endangered though, which brings me onto my next point…
My plans for the future are quite simple – to become as eco-friendly as possible. It really does scare me to hear things like, ‘there’ll be more plastic in the ocean than fish by 2050’, and this is the reason for why I'm planning to do this.
I’m so grateful for all the support I’ve had so far - and can’t wait for what the future has in store for me!
