Hi, I’m Sean! I live in the lovely city of Liverpool! It’s such a creative, beautiful place full of character and I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else (plus, I live not far from Paul McCartney’s childhood home which is pretty cool to be able to say!).
I’ve wanted to go into something creative since a young age as my mum is a children's author (Sheryl Webster), and following the illustration path was definitely the best decision I've ever made!
I set SWI up in early 2016, and sold at my first market down at the Albert Dock a couple of months after. It’s fair to say that it wasn’t the best stall you’ve seen… in fact I cringe looking back now at the multicoloured boxes and handwritten signs! But nevertheless, throwing myself out there right away was exactly what I needed and from that day onward I’ve worked my socks off to get to where I am today.
My logo has played a huge part of my business and has stuck with me from the start. With sloths being a super popular animal, I’ve noticed it being recognised quite a lot at markets (which is always so nice to see)! It doesn’t have much of a story behind it - other than, I love sloths! Speaking of sloths… I’m actually a ‘Sloth Adopter’ at Chester Zoo – they’re so cool!
All of my work is hand drawn. I find this is the best (and most fun!) way to draw. I use high quality watercolour paper, liquid watercolours and Indian ink for all of my designs, which leave lovely, vibrant final illustrations! These are then scanned and edited, which is how I get digital versions of my work to share with the world!
I currently offer picture book illustrations, commercial illustrations and personalised cartoon portraits, along with having a wide range of quirky products and eco-friendly cards up for sale. It's always so exciting to see my work flying off to places such as America, Australia, New Zealand & Dubai!
My most popular service so far has definitely been my Personalised Cartoon Portraits. I first began to offer these in early 2017, and they have proven to be quite popular! I offer 4 different types; family, pet, single and wedding – it’s so nice to be able to bring out the personalities of people (and animals) in a completely different and quirky way to what you’d normally find (and they’re so fun to work on!).
I am a little bit obsessed with The Beatles, and pretty much always have them playing when I’m working! They’re such a big inspiration for me –starting off as 4 teenagers from Liverpool who played where ever they could get a gig to being the biggest band the world’s ever seen! It’s a story that’s shown me that anything is possible if you put your heart and soul into it, whatever your background and wherever you’re from! I was lucky enough to see Paul McCartney live in Liverpool on the 12th December 2018 and it was the best night of my life – and then about a week later he only went and liked an illustration I’d posted of him on Twitter!!! (Claim to fame right there!) It would be a dream to work with him one day in one way or another…
Another passion of mine is animals! I’m a member of Chester Zoo (and as mentioned before a sloth adopter!), so I’m lucky enough to be able to visit the zoo quite often. One thing that that upsets me however is how many beautiful animals are endangered now – because of humans. Elephants, tigers, pandas to name a few… it’s just so sad! I work hard to raise as much awareness and funds to support the protection of these completely innocent and amazing animals so please do keep an eye out for any future fundraisers or work I’m doing to support this cause, it’s an important one!
I also enjoy photography and pretty much take my camera with me wherever I go. Being a member of Chester Zoo gives me the opportunity to capture a lot of funny, cute and sometimes crazy pictures of the animals, and living in a City as beautiful as Liverpool never leaves me stuck for things to snap with my camera!
My plans for the future are to keep developing and creating my work to the best I can, but most of all, I want to have as much fun as possible with it! I’m also going to try my hardest to make my products as eco-friendly as possible, starting with scrapping as much plastic packaging as possible!
I’m so grateful for all the support I’ve had so far - and can’t wait for what the future has in store for me… bring it on!
