Hi I’m Sean, an Artist specialising in illustration and murals living in the beautiful City of Liverpool.
Since I started illustrating professionally in 2016 I’ve had some amazing opportunities. Along with illustrating 9 picture books to date (one winning the Book Awards in 2016 and some being available through Waterstones) I’ve been lucky enough to work on over 200 cartoon portraits with the best clients I could ask for, along with having my range of quirky gifts and cards stocked in 8 amazing outlets in and beyond Liverpool. I also frequently sell my work at markets in some of Liverpool’s most iconic spots such as the Royal Albert Dock and the Palm House. Being able to work with a range of large organisations along with new, start-up companies has allowed me to develop a strong sense of knowing what is right for your business when it comes to artwork, and this goes both for illustrations and mural designs. The first mural I worked on, 'The Liverpool Dragon', really captured the imagination of Liverpool and beyond as soon as I unveiled it, and has since received some lovely comments and quite a bit of press coverage. I’m proud to say I have had 100% positive feedback from my clients.
My biggest inspiration is Paul McCartney. His music, both solo and with the Beatles has had a huge impact both on my work and on me as a person. The fact he started off as a teenager in Liverpool, just like me, and then through his art has become the biggest musician in the world has shown me that anything is possible if you put your heart and soul into it, whatever your background and wherever you’re from! I was lucky enough to see him in concert in 2018, and left completely inspired… it was the best night of my life!
I’m also strongly inspired by animals, and being a member of Chester Zoo means I get to see these amazing creatures quite often. I’ve come to realise that their personalities, traits and colours are all completely unique, and this really helps me to develop the best characters possible in my work after getting a first-hand viewpoint of them! It’s terrible that extinction is such a problem, most of it caused our own doing. That is why I aim to do as much as I can for animals. Along with making my products and packaging as eco-friendly as possible, I ran an auction called ‘Draw For Animals’ in 2016, in which I got 80+ artists from across the world (including famous musicians and Disney animators) to donate a piece of their work which I then auctioned off online to raise money for Chester Zoo’s ‘Act For Wildlife campaign. With everyone’s support we managed to raise over £600.
All of my illustrations are hand drawn. I find this is the best (and most fun) way to draw. I use high quality watercolour paper, liquid watercolours and Indian ink for all of my designs, which leave vibrant final images! I then scanned and edit these digitally leaving a lovely crisp finish. As for my mural work, I use top quality acrylics, spray-paints, and seal each piece with a strong varnish to ensure the work can’t be damaged or tampered with in any way.
My overall goal is to add a splash of colour to the world, and I’m going to make sure that happens.
I can’t wait to get cracking with the exciting projects I have lined up, and can’t wait for what the future has in store for me – bring it on!
